The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared 29-year-old Akarachi Amadi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election for Mbaitoli/ Ikeduru Federal Constituency of Imo State.
Announcing the results at the federal constituency’s collation centre at Nworuibi, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof Boniface Okoro, said that the APC candidate polled the highest number of votes after the supplementary election held on Saturday.
Okoro said that Amadi got 21,372 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Uche Ogbuagu of the Labour Party (LP), scored polled 18, 296 votes.
The incumbent and the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Henry Nwawuba, garnered 7, 202 votes to place third while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Usmond Ukanacho had 6,681 votes, to finish fourth.
There was wild jubilation in the area immediately the 29-year-old was returned as the winner of the election.
