No fewer than three persons were abducted on Saturday at Isara Remo, along the Ogun State axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, after gunmen who have been terrorising the highway struck again.
Saturday’s incident was the latest in a series of kidnap attack on motorists on the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. It came exactly a week after kidnappers killed a commercial driver and abducted four passengers at Onigari axis of the expressway.
Nigerian Tribune reported that the bandits, numbering about 10, dressed in military uniform emerged from a bush along the highway and started shooting sporadically as usual, directing the shots at vehicles and their occupants.
While some were able to escape, including Nollywood actress, Bimpe Akintunde, who wrote about the incident on her Instagram page, a man was caught by the kidnappers but he managed to escape from their grips later.
But some staff of a company who went to attend a ceremony and were returning home were not so lucky as one of the three vehicles conveying them broke down and the other two vehicles waited for the one that broke down.
It was gathered that while repairs were being carried out on the faulty one, the kidnappers suddenly emerged from a nearby bush and abducted three of the occupants of the vehicles.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun State Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the abduction of the three persons.
He, however, said that the anti-kidnapping unit of the command, vigilantes and hunters are combing the bush to apprehend the perpetrators and rescue the victims.
