The senator representing Oyo North senatorial district, Dr Fatai Buhari, has, for the third time, empowered his constituents with tools, scholarships and start-up capital totaling N100 million.
Buhari started his mega empowerment project in 2016 and held another edition in 2018. Over 2,000 constituents benefited from this year’s empowerment which cut across the 13 local governments in the district. They are the 10 local governments in Oke-Ogun and three in Ogbomoso land.
At the expansive field of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Iseyin, Buhari gathered over 5,000 constituents and well-wishers for the impactful programme. Top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state led by former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala also graced the occasion. The lawmaker distributed 20 saloon cars, 270 motorcycles, 100 laptops, start-up capital, 600 grinding machines, 250 sewing machines, 80 freezers, 80 generators, 50 vulcanizing machines and bursary among others.
Sen. Buhari explained that he embarked on the mega empowerment for the third time because it is a direct dividend of democracy for the people. The lawmaker added that since he started four years ago, he has seen many beneficiaries whose lives have been transformed with the work tools and start-up capital.
The empowerment include cash support of N20,000 for 100 widows, 100 elders and the vulnerable, N20,000 cash bursary for 100 students, N100,000 start-up capital each for 10 youths and N10,000,000 for various community projects.
At the programme were APC State Chairman, Chief Akin Oke and top party leaders including a former deputy governor, Chief Iyiola Oladokun and Sen. Teslim Folarin. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola was represented by Dr Yunus Akintunde.
