The immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, has raised the alarm that frausters were using fake social media accounts in his name to swindle unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Ojerinde said some faceless individuals operating social media accounts in his name, have been demanding money in exchange for jobs and other opportunities.
His words: “It has come to my attention that some unscrupulous elements in the society have been using my name on social media, especially Facebook, to swindle unsuspecting members of the public.
“The criminals, who opened social media accounts in my name, demanding money for non-existing jobs in federal agencies, loan facilities and other fraudulent promises, have been perpetrating the act for months until it was brought to my notice few days ago. I hereby inform the members of the public that I neither have/operate any account on Facebook nor have I sent anyone to do so in my name.”
The OAU don warned members of the public to be alert to the fraudulent activities of the faceless criminals and be wary of transacting any business with anyone in his name without clarifications from him. He also called on security agencies to be alert to the threat posed by impersonators on social media.
