A pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Yoruba Patriots Movement (YPM), has described the emergence of former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 presidential election as not only timely for the turn around era for Nigeria’s economy and political stability, but more importantly as a victory for every Nigerian regardless of creed, tribe or tongue.
In a statement, titled “Rejoice Nigeria! Rejoice Neglected!! Rejoice,The Masses !!!, Here Comes The Next-Level Prosperity, Equity, Justice & Security for all”, signed by its President, Barrister Oladosu Oladipo (GFFC), and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, on Sunday, the group stated that “the hour has come for the people of Nigeria to choose between light and darkness.”
It added that the next general election will be a litmus test to demonstrate the genuine concerns of every good Nigerian on the affairs of the country in all ramifications.
Oladipo, who since 2015, has been in the forefront of the campaign for Yoruba presidency after the expiration of President Mohammadu Buhari’s tenure in 2023, noted that “YPM is fully satisfied that the clamour for the power shift to the South in general and to the South West in particular, has been fully realised through a progressive party (APC), led by President Muhammadu Buhari, (GCFR).”
“Our clamour for power shift to the South is no more a dream but a step to reality actualisation through the massive support of our brothers and sisters across the Niger who are eching for next level glorious positions and life more abundant in the atmosphere of equity, peace, justice peace and safety.
“More importantly, the ruling party has given us a consistent performer as a candidate, in person of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, with enough capacity and strength to win the next general election in 2023 as opposed an ultra conservative inconsistent opponent offer by the leading opposition party, the PDP, that did everything possible to ruin the economy of this country through creed and self-centered traits of character, ” the statement read.
YPM stated that Tinubu squaring up with other parties’ candidates is a good omen, as this will bring developmental issues to the front burner of the national discourse as we approach the 2023 president election.
“We congratulate Tinubu, Akanbi Omo Olodo Ide, for his consistency, doggedness and forthrightness from the outset, and throughout the campaign period,” the group added.
The group promised to mobilise all true sons and daughters of Yoruba stock, both in Nigeria and diaspora to support APC presidential nominee to win the 2023 election convincingly, and urged those without permanent voter cards to go and obtain theirs now.
Oladipo also commended other aspirants of Yoruba extraction- Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Ajayi Boroffice- who stepped down for the best among them, saying this really demonstrated that politics was not allowed to blind their good senses of reasoning.
The YPM National Coordinator particularly commended the fighting spirit of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, saying, “we look forward to a United APC at every polling unit in all the 774 Local Governments of the Federation for the actualisation of Yoruba President in 2023.”
