A group of “Black Lives Matter” protesters on Tuesday morning stormed the runway of the London City Airport after sailing across the Royal Docks on a boat.
Police were alerted of the incident this morning.
The development comes as British Airways passengers face delays worldwide due to a computer glitch that has grounded flights.
The group said they targeted the airport because it caters to a “small elite”.
A message posted on social media reads: “By 2050 there will be 200million climate refugees.
“Black people are the first to die, not the first to fly, in this racist climate crisis.”

A witness told the Evening Standard: “They got onto the runway using a rubber dinghy from the dock.
“They are on the runway surrounded by police.
“I’m not sure if they are chained together but they are huddled together.”
Emergency services have since confirmed they are attending the scene.
London City Airport is popular with bankers and business professionals due to its close proximity to Canary Wharf.
Last year, only 4.3million passengers used the airport.
