At least 20 people were killed in a bomb blast in the city of Zaria, Kaduna state on Tuesday.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai confirmed this on his Twitter account, saying: “I am sad that a terrorist bomb attack just killed 20 people in Sabon Gari Zaria”.
The blast happened at about 9:00 am as primary school teachers and workers were being screening at government offices in the city.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Boko Haram Islamists will be the main suspects, as they have carried out a wave of similar attacks in the past.
El-Rufai advised people in the city to be vigilant and avoid crowded places in the next few weeks.
His words: “We call on our people to report any suspicious persons and movements to law enforcement agents, traditional rulers and religious leaders.
“The Kaduna State government is working with Federal security agencies that are taking proactive measures to frustrate such terrorists.”
