President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Faruk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by military spokesperson, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.
His appointment came barely six days after the former Chief of Army Staff, Attahiru Ibrahim, and 10 officers lost their lives in a plane crash in Kaduna.
“Prior to his appointment Major-General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI,” the statement added.
Yahaya has previously served as Deputy Military Secretary and Military Secretary (Army Headquarters).
Born in 1966, the new Chief of Army Staff is a member of 37 Regular Course and holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy.
