The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the transfer of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and the six others facing drug trafficking charges with him to Kuje Correctional Center.
Justice Emeka Nwite, on Monday, told the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to transfer the defendants to prison custody, after denying them bail.
The court had earlier held that NDLEA has placed enough evidence before the court for it to refuse their bail applications.
Apart from Kyari, others remanded in Kuje prison include ACP Sunday Ubia, Inspector Simon Agirgba, Inspector John Nuhu, ASP Bawa James, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwane.
The judge ordered accelerated trial of the defendants, and fixed April 28 for the review of facts with respect to the cases against Umeibe and Ezenwane.
Recall that Umeibe and Ezenwane, who were listed as the 6th and 7th defendants, had on March 7, pleaded guilty to the drug trafficking charges against them.
The court, on Monday, listened to arguments from both the prosecution and defence counsels over NDLEA’s application for the review of facts concerning the two defendants, to enable their conviction and sentencing.
