President Muhammadu Buhari needed longer period of rest, that was why he extended his leave. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Adesina said: “During his normal annual checkup, tests showed he needed a longer period of rest, necessitating the President staying longer than originally planned.”
He said that Buhari in a letter is saying thank you to millions of Nigerians who have been sending good wishes and praying for his health and well-being in mosques and churches throughout the country.
According to Adesina’s statement, the president was immensely grateful for the prayers, show of love and concern, and said there was “no cause for worry”.
“President Buhari wishes to reassure Nigerians that there is no cause for worry,” the statement said.
Buhari proceeded on medical vacation on January 19 and handed over the country’s affairs to Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.
He however extended his leave when he was due to return and that brewed several speculations about his health especially as he said in his request that he needed to go through series of medical tests.
The presidency has, however, repeatedly said Mr. Buhari is hale and hearty, but has not disclosed his illness.
