A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release the travelling passport of former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.
Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia gave the order Tuesday while delivering a ruling in the application filed by the former minister, who is standing trial on alleged money laundry offences for the release of the passport.
The EFCC was ordered to submit the passport to the court’s Deputy Chief Registrar, within seven days. She als said that the passport should be released to the defendant after he had written to the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, stating where he intends to travel to.
Fani-Kayode, who is also the Media director of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, is however prohibited from staying out of the country for more than 31 days.
Fani-Kayode was arraigned by the EFCC before Ofili-Ajumogobia on February 11, 2013 on 40 counts bordering on money laundering to the tune of N100m.
