Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has commended the people of Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Atakumosa East and Atakunmosa West local government areas of the state for the way they conducted themselves, describing the observance of the the lockdown imposed on the area as “impressive.”
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ismail Omipidan, said the ancient town of Ilesa and its environs were on Tuesday deserted as the 7-day lockdown order imposed on the four local government areas of Ijesaland by the state government commenced.
He noted that the lockdown is imperative as part of efforts to contain the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus pandemic within the axis.
The State Government’s Enforcement Team, led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Adebayo Adeleke, who went around town on a monitoring exercise, said the team was on ground to enforce the government’s directives and assess the level of compliance.
The enforcement team accompanied by men of the Osun Joint Task Force and Osun Joint Security Network comprising the Police, Nigeria Civil Defense Corps, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army and Volunteers of Amotekun Corps, took to the major streets and communities in the affected areas to mount roadblocks and barricades in major entry points and strategic places as part of efforts to prevent human and vehicular movement.
