The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of one of its colleges, the Federal Government College, Kwali, located in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A statement issued on Monday by the Director Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Ben. Bem Goong, said the decision was as a result of rising insecurity and threat to the lives, property and well-being of the students.
According to the statement, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu gave the directive on Monday, saying the closure became necessary following security breach on Sheda and Lambata Villages, suburbs of Kwali Area Council, which also threatened the security of the school.
Adamu directed that security arrangements should be made for final year students to conclude their NECO examinations.
The minister also directed principals of Unity Colleges across the country to liaise with security agencies within their jurisdictions in order to forestall any security breach in their schools.
