The immediate past Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, is dead.
According to Nigerian Tribune, a source close to the deceased confirmed his death on Thursday.
Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State, died at an undisclosed hospital, after a brief illness.
Recall that the 72-year-old contested for the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the build up to 2023 general election, but lost to President Bola Tinubu.
Onu was a politician, author and engineer.
He served as the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation under President Muhammadu Buhari from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022.
