Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs have reportedly snatched ballot papers meant for the local government election in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Recall that Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) had fixed Saturday, April 27, 2024 for the conduct of election across the 33 local government areas in the state.
It was gathered that the ballot papers to be used in the local government election were hijacked by the hoodlums in the early hours of Friday.
However, it was learnt that the snatched ballot papers have been recovered from the hoodlums.
The affected ballot papers have reportedly been taken back to Ibadan.
OYSIEC Chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, who confirmed the attack on Friday, said that no ballot paper was snatched in the incident.
Olagunju noted that the Divisional Police Officer in the Okeho has been mandated to arrest the suspects.
“That is not true. The fact is that there was an attack on our officials last night.
“Our officials were attacked at our office in Okeho. No ballot paper was snatched.
“In fact, the DPO of Okeho and other security agencies followed our electoral officials back to Ibadan. They just went back to Okeho now. And we have directed the DPO of Okeho to arrest the suspects. That was what happened,” the OYSIEC chairman said.
