The ruling All Progressives Congress has appointed Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, and former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, as the chairman and secretary of the Ondo State governorship primary election committee.
A statement issued on Thursday by the party said Ododo will head the seven-man primary election committee set up to conduct the primary election.
Other members of the committee are former deputy governor of Oyo State, Barr Iyiola Oladokun; Senator Lekan Mustapha, Hon Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, Margaret Duru and Dr. Sani Danjuma.
The committee has been saddled with the responsibility of conducting a direct primary in all the 18 local government areas of the Ondo State to pick the party’s flag bearer ahead of the November 2024 governorship election.
Sixteen aspirants are jostling to clinch the governorship ticket on Saturday.
They include the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; business mogul and senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim; Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olusola Oke; former President of Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Francis Faduyile; Engr Funmi Waheed-Adekojo and APC National Vice Chairman (South West), Dr Isaac Kekemeke.
Others are Dr Soji Ehinlawo, Akinfolarin Samuel, Okunjimi Odimayo, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, Gen. Ohunyeye Olamide, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Oladiran Iyantan and Ifeoluwa Oyedele.
Also, the APC has unveiled a another five-man committee to take charge of post-election appeals and complaints.
The Primary Election Appeal Committee is headed by former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, while Chief Obiocha Israel will serve as Secretary
Other members include former House of Representatives member, Patrick Obahiagbon, Jamilu Isiyiaka Gwamna, and Chief Onyeka Okafor.
The ruling party stated that all members of the committees would be inaugurated on the same day.
“The inauguration of the Ondo State Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee and Appeal Committee is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 4pm.
“Venue: NWC Hall, All Progressives Congress Headquarters, Abuja.
“They will be inaugurated by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu,” it added.
