Osun invents new system for Local Government elections in January 2018

Local Government elections in Osun State will hold on January 27, 2018, Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Chief Segun Oladitan, has announced.

Oladitan who addressed a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, said legal issues prevented the commission from conducting the election since 2013.

He stated that elections would be conducted in the 30 local government council; local council development areas and the area offices recently created by the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led administration

The OSSIEC boss explained that chairmanship elections would not be conducted because councillors would be elected and the chairmen of the councils would be elected from among the elected councillors in each council.

He promised that the elections would be credible and urged politicians to play the game by the rules and electoral guidelines.
