A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN) has described the current crisis within the party as a mere storm in a tea cup, saying it would not affect the party in anyway.
Akintola, who was on Southwest Political Circuit, a current affairs programme on Ibadan-based radio, Fresh FM, at the weekend, said members of the factional Unity Group were only seeking relevance in tbe party ahead of the 2019 elections.
He however described them as friends and political associates of those in the mainstream wing of the party, who were just fighting for a better share of privileges and opportunities in the party.
According to Akintol who is a governorship aspirant on the party’s platform, those who participated in the parallel congresses only wasted their time because only those organized by the national congress committees were acceptable and recognized.
He said the group may not get everything they want because the party has enough for everybody’s need but not enough for everybody’s greed.
“They are asking for too much. Many of them are not placing party interest above theirs. Party discipline is important,” he said.
