Precious Cornerstone University, (PCU), Ibadan has announced the appointment of its pioneer Vice Chancellor ahead of the new academic session set to begin soon.
The faith-based tertiary institution of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, at the weekend presented Prof Kola Oloke as the new VC.
The public presentation which was conducted by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the school governng council, Dr Bayo Adegoke, at the institution’s campus at Olaogun, Ibadan, had in attendance, members of the Council and Board of Trustees including, Elder Whole Okunola, Dr John Fagbenro, Prelate Ago Makinde and Prof Ben Emipe.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Wale Oke, the promoter of the university and Presiding Bishop of the church, said the VC is being appointed ahead of October 12 when the school will begin to receive pioneer students.
Bishop Oke commended the selection team for Prof Oloke’s selection through a rigprous process, saying that the university’s vision to produce employers of labour requires appointing a VC who would not only be a teacher but a father-figure for the students.
He added that the new VC is not only academically qualified to manage the university, having been a professor of almost 20 years, he is also spiritually qualified to function in a faith-based institution to give an all round training and development to the students.
He said “The philosophy of the university is to develop all-round personalities that will not just be academically sound, but morally upright, original thinkers, job creators, people of possibility thinking as well as people with dominion mentality.
“There will not be compromise of academics, morals and any other value that can derail the university in its match towards being a world-class institution and we are sure the new VC will help drive the vision.”
In his speech, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Adegoke said the new VC has to his credit the supervision of about 15 PhD students out of which two have also become professors, apart from the many masters and first degree projects he has supervised.
Dr Adegoke said the institution is sensitive to all issues peculiar to members of faith based institution and that the PCU planned giving concession and fees reduction to indigent students and those who are members of Sword of the Spirit Ministries and Christ Life Church.
In his remarks, Prof Oloke said the future of education in the country is in the private universities, noting that many graduates of private universities graduate with first class grade because of the efforts, materials and resources put into their trainings by their institution.
He added that he would place emphasis on entrepreneurship trainings and ensure the graduates are industry ready by ensuring that industry needs form the basis of trainings and research while students will also be exposed to the industry related to their courses before graduation.
