A policeman reportedly killed a female Corp member serving in Abuja early Wednesday morning. The deceased, Linda Angela Igwetu, was billed to pass out of the NYSC programme today, Thursday.
Reports said Linda, who was serving at Outsource Global Company, Mabushi, finished work late at about 11pm and joined some friends to hang out before their Passing Out Parade scheduled to hold the next day.
Civil rights activist and life coach, Segun Awosanya, who gave account of the incident on Twitter, said that on their way home from the club at about 3am, Linda and her friends got to a checkpoint immediately after Ceddi Plaza. A police officer identified as Benjamin Peters reportedly opened fire on them and a bullet hit Linda on her side and she started to bleed profusely.
“She was rushed to the Garki hospital but they wouldn’t treat her until they see a police report despite the fact that the police officers were present. While the deliberation was ongoing, Angela bled to death,” Awosanya said.
He continued: “The case was later taken to Federal Secretariat Police Station where the elder sister of the deceased Chineye Igwetu was crying for help before our legal team reached her, minutes after we were notified of the incident.
“The Legal team @citizens_Gavel are awaiting the police report on the incident and have initiated a petition to the commissioner of police & theForceHQ on the incident while preparing for a legal suit on this matter on behalf of the family at no cost. #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG”
