A Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday ruled in favour of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku on the conduct of the governorship election in Taraba state.
The election tribunal in its ruling had nullified Ishaku’s election after it was challenged by the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Aisha Alhassan (Mama Taraba), on the grounds that Ishaku was not properly nominated as PDP’s candidate.
But on Thursday, the Court of Appeal with a five-member panel led by Justice Abdul Aboki ruled that Ishaku’s nomination by PDP could not be questioned by a non-member of the party and thus stating that his nomination complied with section 85 of the electoral act.
The Court, therefore, upheld Mr. Ishaku’s election, after upholding most of his 3 grounds of appeal against the cross-appeal filed by Alhassan who had asked for the cancellation of the election.
