Gunmen attack Osun PDP governorship aspirant in Osogbo

Gunmen on Friday attacked one of the governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Olawale Rasheed

Rasheed, a former Political Editor of Nigerian Tribune, and one of his aides, narrated how he escaped death in the early morning attack in Osogbo.

He said he was on his way to Osogbo from Ibadan to submit his letter of intent to contest the governorship election on the platform of the PDP when the gunmen, who drove in an unmarked black sport utility van, crossed his vehicle and opened fire on it.

His words: “I was coming to Osogbo from Ibadan this morning when the incident happened.

“I was at Gbogan and I observed that a vehicle was trailing me; so, I asked the person driving the vehicle in which I was to slow down.

“I became obvious that they were up to something evil.

“The unmarked black SUV in which the gunmen were driving immediately overtook us and blocked our path. Four masked men came out of the SUV and started shooting in the air and one of them said, ‘Get him, get him.’

“Our driver immediately put the vehicle in reverse gear and sped away before he later managed to turn back and faced Ibadan.

“They also turned and pursued us for about five minutes. They shot at us continuously as they trailed us.

“They eventually turned back before we got to Ikire and that was how we escaped the attack.”

Asked if he had reported the case to the police, Rasheed, who looked distraught, said he had yet to make any official report of the incident, promising to do so before leaving Osogbo.
