A 24-year-old female student of Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State, Jamima Shetima Balami, has taken her own life.
The young lady was a National Diploma II student of Mass Communication and was about to complete her Industrial Training (IT) at Adamawa Television (ATV) in Yola, before her death.
Balami, who hailed from Garkida Gombi, was found dead at her residence in Vinikilang, also known as Hayin Gada, in the Girei Local Government Area of the state.
She was believed to have ingested a substance suspected to be rat poison.
It was gathered that Balami’s boyfriend, said to be a university lecturer, asked her to end their relationship, which may have been a contributing factor to her decision to take her own life.
The father of the deceased reported the matter to the police.
The Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a statement, on Monday.
He said the matter had been reported in two different versions, adding that the police will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter to determine the true cause of the lady’s death.
