Not less than 50 people were feared dead on Sunday night after explosions rocked a mosque and restaurant in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The explosions occurred precisely at a mosque on Dilimi Street and at a restaurant close to a motor park all along Bauchi Road in Jos North Local Government area.
It was learnt that the first explosion occurred at about 9:14 pm at a shopping complex along Bauchi road some few meters before the Bauchi park and University of Jos where some group gathered to break their fast at the restaurant.
A source close to the scene disclosed that a lady suicide bomber who was about 25 years old entered the restaurant with the intention of buying food but only to detonate the bomb trapped on her body, thus pulling down the entire structure and killing score of people.
Idris who was panting having ran from the scene of the incident said customers usually gather by the food seller’s shop in the evenings to buy food and say the Tarawi prayers.
It was gathered that the situation caused pandemonium along the busy Bauchi road, many rushed to the scene of the incident and help to evacuate some of the dead bodies in the debris of the structure. Twenty dead bodies were recovered from the scene while some few other sustained fatal injuries.
While some group of people were trying to salvage the situation another bomb explosion occurred close to the popular Yan Taya mosque where Sheikh Sani Yahaya does his Ramadan tafsir.
According to Nigerian Tribune, quite a lot of people were killed and injured in the second explosion because there was a large concentration of people at the scene of the event when the bomb exploded while some gunmen were said to have shot at people amid the confusion.
