The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnapper in Abuja, Saidu Abdulkadir, aka Dahiru Adamu.
FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, disclosed this while parading the suspect at the command headquarters in Abuja, on Friday night.
Recall that FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had on Monday placed N20 million bounty on two kidnappers who were said to be on the run. Dahiru was one of the kidnappers.
Igweh said Dahiru was arrested following a raid on kidnappers’ camps between Nasarawa-Abuja border, in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
“Operatives of the FCT Police Command attached to the anti-kidnapping unit, in a continued effort against criminality in the territory, raided two kidnappers’ camps bordering Nasarawa and Abuja in Kuje Area Council on 15/02/2024 at about 12am, dislodged the camps and arrested one Saidu Abdulkadir, popularly known as Dahiru Adamu, who is the gang leader and one of the wanted suspects of the kidnapping syndicate paraded by the Police Command on 14th February 2024.
“The bandits on sighting the operatives, opened fire and engaged the police in an intense gun duel. But they were eventually overpowered by the police, and one Habu Yakubu and Isufu Abubakar, earlier abducted from Kwaita village in Pegi district of Kuje Area Council, were rescued unhurt and the suspect arrested,” he said.
According to Igweh, the arrest of Adamu was a huge success for the command and the FCT administration, which he said would restore peace and security in the territory.
Igwe thanked Wike for his support and encouragement to the police and also thanked the public for their cooperation and providing information that led to the arrest of Dahiru.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect masterminded the kidnap and killing of one Mr Sunday Yahaya Zakwai, the district head of Ketti village,” the police boss said.
He said efforts are still ongoing to apprehend the other wanted suspects on the run, and assured the public that there is no hiding place for criminals in FCT.
