Lagos State Goverment has banned the operations of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders in four more Local Government (LGs) and six Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.
The Commissoner of Transportation, Dr. Fredric Oladeinde, disclosed this during an inter-ministerial media briefing at the stste secretariat, Ikeja, on Thursday.
According to him, the state government took the decision in the best interest of the generality of the residents and for security reasons.
The additional councils where total ban has been placed on okada operations include Kosofe Local Government, Ikosi-Isherri LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government; Isolo LCDA, Shomolu Local Government, Bariga LCDA, Mushin Local Government and Odi-Olowo LCDA.
Oladeinde said the ban will take effect on September 1, 2022.
The state government had on May 18, ban on okada operations in in six LGs and nine LCDAs to curtail the unruly activities of riders, following several outcry over the growing menace and nuisance constituted by them.
