An acting Vice Chancellor, has been appointed for the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. He is Professor Anthony Elujoba of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The Federal Government had ordered the Senate of the school to use its internal mechanism in selecting a new Vice Chancellor. In the letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, President Buhari directed the Senate not to consider any of the candidates who earlier contested for the position.
The Senate of the institution approved the appointment of Professor Elujoba as the acting VC today, Thursday.
President Muhammadu Buhari recently dissolved the school’s governing council and suspended the selection of new vice chancellor, Prof. Ayobami Salami.
Industrial battle that lasted weeks had broken out between the institution’s Non Academic Staff of Universities, NASU and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU) on one hand, and the governing council on the other hand, over the appointment of Salami as Prof. Bamitale Omole’s successor.
There had also been series of protests against Omole, who has been accused of mismanaging resources of the institution.
