President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with the defunct G5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The G5 is made up of five PDP governors in the last dispensation — Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).
Among the G5 governors, only Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is still a serving governor.
The aggrieved governors had formed an alliance after the PDP presidential primary was won by former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, in May 2022.
They demanded that the then PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, should step down for someone from the South as a precondition to support the presidential candidate of the party in the February 25 election, but that did not happen.
Ayu was later suspended by executive of his ward and subsequently told to stop parading himself as the PDP National Chairman by a High Court in Benue State.
