The chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Paul Omotoso, is dead.
Omotoso died in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness.
He reportedly attended political events on Monday, and was rushed to a hospital in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Tuesday, after complaining of fever. He died at the Ado-Ekiti hospital.
In a statement, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, described Omotoso “as a dedicated leader, unifier and pillar of the party in the state.”
Fayemi said the “sudden departure of the party chairman has left a void difficult to fill within the APC family in Ekiti State and in all those who knew the departed party leader.
“Under his stewardship, our party achieved significant victories in recent elections, gaining the trust of our people. This would not have been possible without his commitment to uniting our members and working selflessly for the greater good of our state and nation,’’ he said.
Omotoso was abducted by gunmen in July 2023,and was released after five days.
His death follows the passing of Fatai Adams, Chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on February 14.
