Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, failed to appear before the seven-man House of Assembly committee investigating bribery allegation levelled against him on Friday.
This is just as another video purportedly showing him collecting dollar bills from contractors emerged this morning. There are now four video clips of the governor in circulation.
Reports had it on Thursday that the governor had been summoned by the commitee and that he would appear by 10am.
But on Friday, he sent his Commissioner of Information, Muhammadu Garba to appear on his behalf, as well as a letter saying he has a busy schedule for the day. The Commissioner dor Justice, Ibrahim Mukhtar, was also present.
It would be recalled that Kano State House of Assembly had set up a seven-man committee headed by Honourable Baffa Babba DanAgundi to investigate the authenticity or otherwise of the embarrassing video clips.
The committee had last week invited Ja’afar Ja’afar, publisher and editor-in-chief of Daily Nigeria, an online newspaper that released the video clips.
The publisher had testified before the committee and tendered written statement and copies of the video clips to the committee.
Ganduje, testifying through Garba at today’s hearing, said he did not collect bribes from anyone. He said the video clips in circulation were aimed at tarnishing his image politically.
