Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a Fulani man, identified as Amodu Shehu, in Abule Oba Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, The Punch reports.
Shehu’s father, Alhaji Amodu, said his son was kidnapped around 7pm on Friday while coming home from his farm.
He said: “The gunmen started shooting sporadically in our village and we were all scared. In the process, they kidnapped Shehu and took him away. We later reported to the police at Ayete division, as well as to Chief Odomofin in the town.
“Police officers followed us to the village on Saturday and we saw expended bullets. The kidnappers called on Saturday and demanded N10 million ransom before they can release my son. When they called back in the evening, it was reduced to N7 million.
“I am using this medium to call on the Oyo State Government to increase security in Ibarapa land because the rate of crimes here is getting out of hand.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident.
“But the Police at Ayete were only informed on Saturday and since then, we have commenced investigation to track down the abductors and secure the release of the abducted Fulani man,” Osifeso said.
