Gunmen on Sunday night invaded a hotel in Alomilaya area, Ganmo, in Ilorin, Kwara State, killing the owner of the hotel, identified as Kayode Akinyemi.
The gunmen, who fired sporadic shots, also injured the manager of the hotel, Olushola Ojo,and abducted a friend of the hotel owner, identified as Ori.
Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi.
“A group of gunmen invaded a hotel named 16 Hour Hotel, Alomilaya area of Ganmo, Ilorin, shot indiscriminately, killing the owner of the hotel, one Kayode Akinyemi ‘m’ aged 47 years, while his manager named Olushola Ojo ‘m’ was seriously injured.
“One of the friends of the owner of the hotel, one Ori ‘m’ who was with him on the day of the incident was abducted,” Okasanmi said.
Okasanmi, who noted that the gunmen had disappeared into the bush before policemen arrived at the scene, said that the injured manager of the hotel was taken to General Hospital, Ilorin, where he was receiving treatment.
“The Command’s tactical teams in conjunction with vigilante and hunters have since been mobilised to the scene to comb the surrounding bushes for possible rescue of the victim and arrest of the hoodlums.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, CP Tuesday Assayomo, has declared a total lockdown of the area and a result-oriented manhunt for the perpetrators of the heinous act, adding that enough was enough for criminals in the state,” he added.
Assayomo said stringent security action was already in place to check the activities of criminal elements in the state.
The police spokesperson added that the corpse of the hotel owner had been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
