A post-mortem report has confirmed a goat that died in Vereeniging, South Africa, last week had been raped and strangled by a man, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said on Friday.
According to the statement by the SPCA, “A post-mortem report received yesterday from an independent laboratory confirms that the goat was raped and strangled, which resulted in the death of the animal,”.
A shepherd, last Friday, caught the culprit red-handed when he heard the goat frantically bleating, spokesperson Major Mack Mngomezulu said.
“The man undressed himself and then caught the goat, strangled it and started to have sex with it.
“The goat started to scream and then a shepherd shouted for assistance,” Mngomezulu said at the time.
Members of the community came to the shepherd’s aid and assaulted the man.
“He was rescued by police who took him to the hospital,” Mngomezulu said.
The SPCA was called in. The goat was found alive but died shortly thereafter.
Meanwhile, the alleged rapist had since been discharged from hospital and was in police custody.
The goat’s alleged rapist remained behind bars and was expected to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on July 2 where he would face charges of bestiality and animal cruelty.
