Miss Bimbo Afolabi, a 400-level student of the University of Ibadan emerged winner of the Miss Oyo 2016 beauty pageant. Miss Afolabi, who represented Oluyole Federal Constituency, was crowned the most beautiful girl in Oyo state at the ceremony held on Monday at Premier Hotel, Ibadan.
Apart from the beauty contest, this year’s event, Miss Oyo 2016 saw awards given to journalists, media houses and political leaders in the state.
They include:
- Pride of the state with standing ovation – Dare Adekanbi and Wale Ojo Lanre (Award winning journalists)
- FM Station of the year 2016 – Fresh FM.
- Oyo Broadcast Standard & Ethics compliant station for 2016 – Space FM.
- Oyo State Commissioner of the year 2016 – Prof Azeez Adeduntan (Health)
- Oyo State Outstanding Commissioner 2016 – Isaac Ishola (Enviroment & Water Resources)
- Oyo Top four Local Government chairmen for 2016 – Hon Wasiu Olatubosun (N/W); Hon Bamgboye Joshua (Orire LG); Hon Saheed Yusuff Alaran (Iseyin); Hon Ademola Adewuyi (Egbeda).
- Oyo Champion of Physically Challenged and People with disability – Hon Temitope Akintoye(Sugar).
There was also a special tribute to late Bola Davies of City People magazine. Davies was a consistent judge on the Miss Oyo panel.
According to Mr. Isaac Brown, CEO Silverstone Communications, organisers of the annual Miss Oyo beauty pageant, the hosting of Miss Oyo 2016 in the beginning of January 2017, was to usher the people of the state into the new year with their minds set on bliss, excitement and hope of beautiful things in the new year.
