The African Democratic Congress ( ADC ) in Oyo State have condemned the demolition of Music House, Challenge area, Ibadan which is owned by popular musician, Yinka Ayefele.
A part of the N800 million property, which houses popular radio station, Fresh FM 105.9, was demolished on Sunday morning by the Oyo State Government following the expiration of a demolition notice issued to owners of the property last week.
A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Engr. Seyi Makinde, also described the state government’s action as “selective justice, sparing hundreds of structures to target the radio station out of sheer vendetta.”
The ADC in a statement issued on Sunday, described the demolition of the building as a manifestation of the government’s anti- people policy.
ADC’s statement, which was signed by its Publicity Secretary, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, expressed shock at the action which it said happened in spite of a pending court case on the issue.
“This act of wickedness and lack of respect for judiciary on the part of Oyo State Government is becoming unbearable for the people of the state,” the statement read in part.
Makinde, who paid a solidarity visit to the building yesterday, expressed disbelief that the demolition could be undertaken by a civilian government.
He said that his visit was beyond politics as the sad development endangers freedom of speech which is the rock upon which true democracy is built
Thousands of sympathizers have continued thronged the demolished building expressing anger at the government and sympathy to Ayefele.
