A member of the Board of Trustees(BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Senator Joy Emordi, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Chairman, APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, formally received the Emordi in a brief ceremony in Abuja, according to a statement by the Director-General, Press and Media, to Buni, Mamman Mohammed.
The statement quoted Emordi as saying that she was convinced that “the future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lies in the APC.”
She was also said to have described the APC leadership as “sincerely and genuinely committed to a united Nigeria that has plans for the future generation.”
Emordi assured the party of her loyalty and that of her supporters, saying: “l assure the party of my loyalty and support and to work for the success of the party.
“The APC-led Federal Government is working for the South East and this is attracting more PDP members into APC.”
Speaking, Buni expressed delight with Emordi’s decision to contribute to the unity of the country.
“There is a need for us to join hands for the political stability and national unity of our dear country,” he said.
Buni said the coming of Emordi and other prominent politicians from the South East into the APC will promote national unity.
“The South East is a strong political block and very crucial to the unity of the country, this will no doubt add to national cohesion, ” the governor added.
Emordi’s resignation came hours after seven deputy national officers of PDP on resigned their positions as members of the National Executive Council.
Also, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Trust in the 2019 general elections, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has defected to the ruling APC.
Olawepo-Hashim disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, on Wednesday.
He said he opted for the APC to actualise his vision because the party is not just populated by people with whom they founded the opposition PDP together, but also because the party is a reasonable pathway for the preservation of the unity and progress of the nation.
Olawepo-Hashim said he is now convinced about the passion of President Muhammadu Buhari to fight corruption, even though critics have questioned the effectiveness of his anti-corruption crusade.
