Barely three days to the March 9 governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Kaduna State has suffered a major set back as the executive members of the party in Kudan Local Government area on Tuesday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with thousands of their supporters.
The former executive members are from the same Local Government area with the PDP governorship candidate in the State, Hon. Isa Ashiru.
The defectors were received by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal who represented Governor Nasir El Rufai.
While speaking on behalf of the defectors, a former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in the State, Alhaji Magaji Sadiq Hunkuyi stated that they dumped PDP because it has neglected the people of the council area and due to the internal crisis ravaging the State chapter of the party.
Hunkuyi promised to deliver the area council to APC in Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Some of the 28 member executives who defected with Hunkuyi are Malam Tsoho Mohammed, former Chairman of Hunkuyi ward; Alhaji Salisu Yaro , former Chairman of Sokoto ward; Alhaji Tafida Karfinka, former Chairman of Kauran waki ward; Amba Aliyu, Bilkisu Uba and Dangude Yelwa, former women leaders of Hunkuyi, Doka and Taban wards respectively.
Others are Musa Shittu, former youth leader of Likoro ward; Ali Gadanga, former youth leader of Garu ward and Musa Magaji, former Youth Leader of Hunkuyi ward.
Recall that a PDP governorship aspirant, Sani Sidi and his supporters across the 23 Local Government areas of the State, defected to APC on Monday, citing lack of consultation and reconciliation by the PDP and its governorship candidate, Ashiru, since he emerged the party’s flag bearer.
