Outgoing governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Monday had a valedictory session with members of his cabinet.
In photos shared on social media, the governor was seen in group photographs with his aides in front of the governor’s office building.
Ajimobi bows out on Wednesday May 29 after two eventful terms of eight years as governor.
He was elected into the Senate in 2003 to represent Oyo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). In 2007 he contested for governorship in Oyo State on the platform of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), a bid which he lost. He recontested again in 2011 elections under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He won the election and got a second term in 2015 on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), the mega party the ACN transformed into after merging with other political parties which came together to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party at the federal level.
Following his party’s loss in the March 9, 2019 governorship election, Ajimobi is handing power back to the PDP from which he took over in 2011.
He also lost his bid to return to the Senate after losing to Kola Balogun of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23, 2019 election.
