Some activists who fought for the actualisation of the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by late Chief MKO Abiola, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing Chief Pius Akinyelure as Non – Executive Board Chairman of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
In a statement made available to newsmen by Com Awa Bamiji on behalf of the group, the activists described Akinyelure’a appointment as a round peg in a round hole.
“We congratulate Mr President for making the right choice in the appointment of Chief Pius Akinyelure from Ondo State as Non- Executive Board Chairman of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
“Chief Akinyelure’s appointment as Non – Executive Board Chairman of NNPCL is a round peg in a round hole. It was well deserved considering his wealth of experience and it was also timely because of the urgent need to revive our ailing economy and dwindling value of our currency, which need magic wand to quickly revive it to a desirable condition from this comatose situation.
“His highly productive days from Mobil Producing Nigeria to being the NNPCL board member representing South West and now, Non-Executive Board Chairman of the NNPCL could be best described as complete metamorphosis of requisite experience needed for the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President. Every aspect of our economy presently needs expertise knowledge of a technocrat, capable of preventing it from a total collapse.
“Your appointment and that of other appointed professionals in this present government have adequately testified to the fact that the annulled ‘MKO Abiola’s Hope 93’ is today being adequately renewed by ‘Tinubu’a Renewed Hope Agenda.’
“With Almighty God on your side, you have never been a failure. We therefore pray for your successful tenure and that of experienced others,” the statement read.
CSOs reiterates call on Tinubu to appoint Awa as minister
Meanwhile, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) across the country have once again make a case for one of their own, urging President Bola Tinubu to consider Comrade Awa Bamiji for a ministerial appointment.
In a separate statement made available to newsmen, the CSOs said they had unanimously endorsed Awa for a ministerial position during the Yoruba National Day 2023 celebration, with the representative of the president in attendance.
“With the resignation of Mr Simon Lalong, it is very clear that a search for his replacement by Mr President has just begun,” the statement said.
It added that appointing Awa as a minister will be a reward for his three decades of loyalty to the president, and also appease majority of June 12 activists.
