Popular broadcaster, Edmund Obilo, presenter of Voices, a popular current affairs programme on Splash FM 105.5 in Ibadan, on Tuesday announced his return to the station after months away.
He announced on the station’s Facebook page that he will be on air on Saturday, August 1, 2015.
The return quells speculations that he had been sacked for his radical presentations and alleged insistence on airing controversial interviews that expose corruption to the chagrin of the ruling class in Ibadan where the station is based.
The station had explained endlessly that Obilo was still a staff of the station, that he had only gone on study leave abroad, but many doubted the explanations.
Many even boycotted the station after Obilo’s baritone voice stopped coming on air.
In June last year, Obilo had, on “Bull’s eye”, another programme he anchored, aired an interview by a House of representatives member, Kamil Akinlabi, that exposed how the Alafin of Oyo, and the Oyo State governor, had allegedly been sharing the money belonging to the state, under the guise of fake contracts.
Shortly after the interview, management of the station reportedly fired Obilo, with some saying it was on the request of the State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
He was however recalled after being away for three weeks.
