Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said he never promised or had any understanding with the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, in the build up to the February 25 presidential election.
Recall the the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate and president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, won in Rivers State after polling 231,591votes, while Obi had 175,071 to place second.
Political pundits believed Tinubu won the state due to the tacit support given to him by Wike, while Labour Party and its supporters accused the Rivers governor of rigging the election in the president-elect’s favour.
Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Wike said he only supported a southern candidate, adding that he didn’t speak against any of them.
He said: “I never promised or had any understanding with Peter Obi anywhere. How can he say that I didn’t work for him? Why should I work for him? I support southern candidate and I didn’t speak against any of them.
“But for someone to say I didn’t support him, meaning what? That I’m compelled tosupport you or what? Rivers people supported who they want. Politics is not propaganda.”
Wike also disclosed that he will soon invite the president-elect, Tinubu, to come and commission some projects in the state.
