The Minister of Power, Works and Housing and former Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has distanced himself from several Facebook accounts opened in his name and picture.
Reiterating that his Facebook account remains facebook.com/babatundefashola and not any of the fake accounts shown in the list below, Fashola said it was unfortunate that despite repeated warnings and disclaimers, certain unscrupulous elements still engage in the act of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public through different social media platforms falsely linked to him.
The following are the fake Facebook accounts opened in the minister’s name:
1. GovFasholaRaji San
7. Babatunde F. Raji
8. Babatunde F. Raji
9. Gov Bola Gazal (Using the official picture of Mr.BabatundeFashola, SAN)
10. Fashola Lee Kan Si (Using the official picture of Mr.Babatunde Fashola, SAN)
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Communications, Mr Hakeem Bello, the call became necessary for the umpteenth time, in view of the activities of scammers, who have been issuing out series of Facebook comments and information in his name, with the intention of duping unsuspecting members of the public.
The statement said the conmen have, through Facebook, been urging unsuspecting people to apply for some government facilities or utilities meant to benefit the public, but to which some agencies of government have been given the responsibility to manage. One of such fraudulent accounts also put out a message purportedly from Mr. Fashola urging people to donate to a fake orphanage.
Noting that Facebook has been formally notified of the fake account for appropriate action, the statement advised members of the public to always clarify with the relevant agencies of government at all levels before engaging in any dealings with people purportedly working for them and also advised people to report to the law enforcement agencies so that those involved in the nefarious acts can be brought to justice.
