Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has written to the APC national leadership, explaining why could not carry out the party’s wish as regards the selection of principal officers.
His letter was in response to the one written by the APC national chairman, submitting the names of those who the party had chosen to occupy the positions.
The party leadership wanted Ahmed Lawan as majority leader, but the Senate’s North East zonal caucus chose Ali Ndume whom Saraki eventually announced as Senate Leader on Thursday.
In Saraki’s letter to APC, he said the party leadership’s letter after the zonal caucus had already made their choice.
He said: “The said letter was received after the various APC zonal caucuses had taken their decisions to nominate candidates as Principal Officers of the Senate in line with parliamentary convention and the extant provisions of the Senate Standing Orders 2015 as amended.”
