The Vice Chancellor University of Lagos, UNILAG , Prof. Rahamon Ade Bello, disclosed on Wednesday, that First Class graduates of the university will be offered automatic employment.
He made the announcement while delivering his convocation speech at the 2014 graduation ceremony held at the Multipurpose Hall.
He said: “The governing Council of the university, for the promotion of excellence in the university has approved that commencing from this year, the two best graduating students, with CGPA not less than 4.00 in each of our programmes, will be automatically employed as Graduate Assistants.”
He explained that the gesture will enable the retention of some of the institution’s best brains in the system while fostering Ph.D training at the university.
According to him, a total of 125 students graduated with First Class honours. Mr Akinpelumi Korede, 21, from the Department of Chemical Engineering emerged the overall best student, with CGPA of 4.96.
Bello added: “We shall continue to set the standards and create the platform for intellectual contribution to the economic and social advancement of our great nation,” he said
