The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said on Tuesday that it was not aware of the resignation of Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike from the national team, adding that they are yet to get any official communication from the player in that regard.
Emenike had on Monday posted on his Instagram page that he was quitting international football.
But reacting to the development, General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said the federation has not received any official correspondence from Emenike in that regard adding that the NFF will not comment on an issue based on what was posted on the social media.
However, Sanusi added that the federation reorganizes the fact that it is the right of any player to play or not to play for the national team.
“I just heard of it but there is no official confirmation from the player in question, so for us it is mere speculation. However, I also agree that it is the right of any player to play or not to. Our concern as a federation is how to build a formidable team for Nigeria.”
Sanusi who refused to draw comparison with the recent retirement of goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama added that the NFF will not discuss issues of players and coaches in the media but added that the way to go for the coaches is to have two or three players for each position in case of any eventuality.
It will be recalled that former captain, Vincent Enyeama recently announced his exit from the Super Eagles following the disagreement he had with Coach Sunday Oliseh over the team’s captaincy.
