Coalition for a Better Nigeria, an umbrella body of civil society organisations (CSOs), youths’ and students’ organisation, has vowed to protect the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in the February 25 presidential election.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the group, Com Awa Bamiji, called on citizens to defend the mandate freely given to the president-elect, Tinubu, by Nigerians.
He noted that the peaceful co-existence of different tribes in the country is non-negotiable and asked those inciting the public over the outcome of the presidential election to desist forthwith.
“We watched the shameful and disgusting protests, which enemies of democracy described as anti – Tinubu protests in Nasarawa, Abuja and few other places.
“We are now calling on the general public to rise up immediately and defend the mandate they freely gave the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progresives Congress (APC), by joining us in the ongoing democratic struggle.
“We call on Inspector-General of Police to intervene by stopping this ongoing show of shame by the opposition and some unscrupulous leaders,” he said.
Awa berated those clamouring for the installation of Interim National Government, adding that the silence of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), Police and other security agencies means the cabal at the presidential villa is still at work.
“After losing out in the APC presidential primary, they subjected innocent Nigerians to sufferings through the cash crunch and fuel scarcity before the election and till now.It is no retreat, no surrender until May 29 inauguration becomes a reality.
“The bitter experience of the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, exactly 30 years ago, is better imagined than experienced.
“After going to the tribunal, they are now constituting nuisance to the public and their enduring civil disobedience has just taken another dimension,” Awa said.
He added that the May 29 hand over date is sacrosanct, stressing that nobody will stop Tinubu from being sworn-in on the day.
