Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Yoruba Patriots’ Movement (YPM), traditional rulers from the South West, and other stakeholders have condemned those advocating for military take over in the country.
In a communique issued at the end of the Renewed Hope Agenda South West Summit organised by Yoruba Patriots Movement (YPM) under the leadership of Barr. Oladosu Oladipo, the stakeholders declare their support for the ongoing economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu.
“The bold reforms of the current administration are inevitable and necessary for the sustainable development and prosperity of Nigeria.
“We acknowledge the temporary discomfort and pains in the country as a result of the ongoing reforms
“An attempt by some unpatriotic and mischievous forces to exploit the current discomfort to call for military take over is misguided, unacceptable and out of the question
“All Nigerians must stand united in defence of democracy and the future of Nigeria
“It is incumbent upon all Yoruba elders and stakeholders to remain steadfast in supporting the ongoing reforms and work closely with stakeholders from other regions of Nigeria to support the current administration
“Democrats within and outside Nigeria have a moral responsibility to heed the call to defend our hard earned democracy
“The National Assembly should enact a law to establish the South West Development Commission
“Ikere Gorge Dam in Iseyin, the Owala Dam, Oba Oke, Osun State that have been abandoned for decades should be completed and used for large-scale irrigation and power generation as conceptualised
“A Peace and Productivity Commission be established by an Act of the National Assembly to promote peace and drive the nexus between peace and productivity in the land
“The South West Governors should invest in large scale agriculture and priotise food production and security
“All Governors and Public Office Holders should compliment the vision and mission of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President
“There is urgent need for subsequent convocations of such a beautiful summit across South West States at least once in threw months till 2031,” the communique read.
Some of the dignitaries at the summit include General Alani Akinrinade (Rtd), represented by former Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole; Emeritus Prof Olu Aina, who was the Guest Speaker;
Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Leader, Yoruba Unity Forum; Comrade Jare Ajayi National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere; Comrade Awa Bamiji, Prof (Mrs) Bolanle Awe, Hon. Ayo Afolabi, South West Zonal Publicity Secretary, All Progressives’ Congress (APC) among others.
