The management of BOVAS & Company Ltd has denied report in the media that its petrol and gas station at Offa Garage, in Ilorin, Kwara State was gutted by fire.
A statement by the company’s Executive Director, Temitope Samson, said the report, which is supported with a fake picture of a different incident “completely unrelated to us, is totally untrue.”
“Our attention has been drawn to a report in the media claiming that a fire broke out at the BOVAS Petrol & Gas station in Offa Garage, Ilorin, Kwara State today Wednesday March 17, 2021.
“We hereby state categorically that the report, which is supported with a fake picture of a different incident completely unrelated to us, is totally untrue. The report also claimed that some people sustained injury in the fictitious fire incident,” Samson said.
According to him, there was no fire incident and no person was injured in the minor accident that occurred.
“For clarity, below is the correct and accurate account of the incident. At about 11.06 am, an unknown man drove a Toyota Camry car with registration number CB 16 FST recklessly into our Offa Garage Petrol & Gas station, Ilorin. He ran into the LPG dispenser barricade and pipes thereby causing a loud bang.
“Though the driver quickly escaped and disappeared, the minor accident was promptly brought under control by our trained staff who immediately applied CO2 dry powder to prevent any fire occurrence.
“All the facilities were also shut down immediately to prevent any unforeseen accident. Sales of petrol was, however, restored after two hours of ensuring that no ugly situation could arise.
“The LPG is still locked down and awaiting DPR safety inspection and certification before resuming sales.
“The vehicle has been towed to and detained at the police station.
“As a responsible corporate organization, BOVAS & Company Ltd. takes safety of her staff, customers and all stakeholders seriously. This informed the reason adequate safety measures are put in place at all our stations and offices nationwide.
“We urge those spreading this fake news to desist. The BOVAS brand has been deliberately built over the years, and we will stop at nothing in protecting our good name,” he added.
The BOVAS management urged members of the public to ignore the fake news.
