Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has recounted how his family conspired against him during the presidential election.
The governor spoke about the conspiracy while featuring on Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’, on Monday evening.
Umahi, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said his family cast their votes for Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate.
He said it was surprising that President Muhammadu Buhari and the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, lost their states to opposition parties in the February 25 election.
Umahi, who is also the Senator-elect for Ebonyi South, said the votes recorded by the Labour Party were not because of Obi, but “protest votes” due to the hardship and challenges in Nigeria.
“In all honesty, I didn’t give any chance to the Labour Party to win any election in my state (Ebonyi State) because what we have put in place was such that no other political party should be able to win anything, not even councillorship election in my state.
“I saw the Labour Party vote as a protest against my party (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I was very surprised; even in my family, there was a conspiracy against me. I did not know that they voted for Peter Obi, but in the other election, they voted for APC because of what we’ve done in the state.
“It was not a vote for His Excellency Peter Obi. As such, there is seemingly hardship and challenges in Nigeria.”
Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Obi to win the presidential election.
