The Osun State Police Command has said that its operatives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the headless corpse of a woman discovered opposite Osogbo Local Government Secretariat in Oke Baale, Osogbo, on Tuesday.
The command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the presence of the corpse while addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday, said that relevant authorities have been contacted to evacuate the body.
Opalola further stated that operatives have begun an investigation into the incident to unravel the mystery surrounding how the body came to be in the spot where it was found.
“Concerning the dead body of a headless and armless woman that was found opposite Osogbo LG secretariat, Oke Baale, I want to inform you that the police are aware.
“The necessary authority has been contacted for the immediate evacuation of the corpse, while discreet investigation is ongoing,” she said.
Meanwhile, the presence of the corpse in the has caused panic in the area.
A few residents of the area claimed that the head and arms of the deceased were severed by unidentified assailants.
According to them, the woman was a familiar face in the neighbourhood, often seen walking around the area as she was homeless.
They also mentioned that they were able to identify the deceased by the clothes she was wearing and called for a discreet investigation to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime.
